BQ34110: can't see the FCC update after EOS learning phase

Part Number: BQ34110
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24079T

Hi Expert

I use a 1000mAh battery to do test and set "direct charge control" function enabled, as log I can see the gauge control the 3 times discharge cycles then enable the charger to charge battery but I can not see the FCC has update.

Please advise how to set the bq34110 by direct charge control to get battery capacity learning.

Charge IC EVM : bq24079T

Gauge IC EVM : bq34110

the alert 1 pin drive a gate pin of 2N7002K the Drain pin to connect CE pin of bq24079T.

Attached enclosure file are log file and gg file for reference.

  • Hi Cage,

The system must go through a full charge and then full discharge cycle before FCC is estimated. The discharge count register (DCR) tracks the discharge of the battery and incremented in count if the battery unergoes a qualified discharge from nearly fully to a low battery level.

in the gg.csv file, EDV is set to 3000 mV, EDV1 is set to 3025 mV and EDV2 is set to 3049 mV. FIXED_EDV0 is set and EDV_CMP is not set so the device relies on the fixed values programmed in data flash for EDV0, EDV1 and EDV2.

In the logs, charge qualified termination does not occur because the voltage on the cells is seen to decrease from 4098 mV to only 3798 mV.

The voltage will need to be below EDV2, 3049 mV, as one of the qualifications for an update. For the full list of qualifications, please refer to section 2.7.3 for more information on achieving a capacity learning (FCC) update.

    Sincerely,
    Bryan Kahler
