TPS2384: Can V10, V6.3, V3.3, V2.5 output be turned on/off by I2C control from a external controller?

Part Number: TPS2384
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23861

One of my customers is considering using TPS2384 for their new products.

They have the following questions about the device? Could you please answer me for the customer?

Q1. Can V10, V6.3, V3.3, V2.5 output of TPS2384 be turned on/off by I2C control from a external controller?

Q2. Can TI have any newer device which has same or similar functions?

Your reply would be much appreciated.

 Best regards,

 Kazuya Nakai.

  • Hi Kazuya,

I don't think you can disable V10, V6.3, V3.3, V2.5 as these are generated internally for internal use. TPS23861 is a newer device with autonomous mode and can provide type 2 power. We have GUI, reference code and EVMs in TPS23861 product folder. Thanks.

  • Hi Penny,

Thank you for the prompt reply.

Can I ask you an additional question?

Can the internal LS return switches connected between "N1"~"N4" and "RET1"~"RET4" be turned on/off separately by I2C?

    Thank you and best regards,
    Kazuya Nakai.
  • Hi Kazuya,

TPS2384 has auto mode and manual mode. In auto mode, ports are turned on automatically as long as the PDs are compliant type 1 PDs. In manual mode, the ports are controlled by host through I2C. The ports are independent. Please note that TPS23861 has simpler hardware and software design. It is easier to get started with our EVM and reference code, so I highly recommend starting new designs with TPS23861. Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Penny
  • Hi Penny,

Thank you very much for your reply.
The customer is looking for a device which can turn on/off PD switch by host controller.
Can TPS23861 turn on/off PD switch by host controller?

Thank you again and best regards,
    Kazuya Nakai.
  • Hi Kazuya,

Yes. TPS23861 can also be controlled by host controller. We also offer MSP430 reference code on ti.com. Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Penny
