BQ34Z100EVM: BQSTUDIO: Why can't I see Learning Mode?

An exceptionally dumb question but I don't see "learning mode" anywhere on the BQStudio either the "official" or "test" release? Is there some special way to enable it? Is it not supported for the BQ34Z100EVM?

Hi Neil,

This isn't a dumb question by any means. bqStudio has different modules for different devices. Unfortunately, the modules for bqStudio with respect to the bq34z100-G1 do not include a learning mode module.

Trying to start bqStudio (test version) up with a different device loaded (such as the bq27541) that includes the module, then attaching the bq34z100-g1 will result in the bq34z100-g1 modules being loaded.

The learning cycle will have to be performed manually.

OK. Thanks for not making me feel bad :-)

So I started up bqstudio with no device connected and then selected the bq27541 as you suggested. And sure enough, the Learning module was loaded. I could select stuff and look at its contents. Then when I plugged in the bq34z100-g1 (through the EV2400 connected to the bq34100evm), I get an exception from bqstudio which then errors out and unloads the Learning plugin when it realizes a bq34z100-g1 is connected. Is there another trick I can play on bqstudio (BTW I am using the test version)

Thanks for trying. In reality, all I want to do is to go through a learning cycle (or two or three). I am new to this device and bqStudio but I *should* be able to piece together the manual steps to do this using bqStudio. Is there some sort of document that describes those steps in some straightforward manner? I realize this means sitting and watching and doing stuff like charging and discharging but I'm OK with that. The end thing I want is the file to program all gauges thereafter. Any direction on that?

The following app note wasn't written specifically for this device, but the steps are similar for lithium ion based chemistries. If you're using a different chemistry, please let me know.

Thanks! I am actually using a LiFePO4 battery. Does that require a substantially different approach?

Just longer rest periods after charge and discharge. 5 hours after FC sets instead of 2.
