adjustment pin current of LM317A

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM317A

In web page pf LM317A,

Iq(typ) is 0.05mA.

www.ti.com/.../LM317A

This matches adjustment pin current 50µA(typ) in datasheet p.6.

The adjustment pin current and Quiescent Current are the same.

Is this correct?

And please tell us the Quiescent Current if the above idea is a mistake.

Best regards,

Takahiro Nishizawa

  • Hi Takahiro,

Quiescent current is a method to measure the current used to power the linear regulator. Quiescent current is a measurement of the current flowing to GND; however, since LM317A does not have a GND pin, this current will flow through the ADJ pin. As a result, the ADJ pin current is also a measurement of the current required to power the regulator.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
