TPS23880: TPS23880 Application Question

Part Number: TPS23880

Hi, TI Team

We have some questions about TPS23880 application.

  1. Can we use TPS23880 GUI tool without switch device to upgrade TPS23880 and MCU firmware and bypass other IC through the JTAG interface? Which is means that, we have other IC devices in parallel the same JTAG interface with TPS23880. Can we bypass other device to program TPS23880 and MCU without switches ?
  2. Do you have filed upgrade toolkit for TPS23880 and MCU? Does it support Linux? And how to use it?
  3. How many TPS23880 devices does MCU support? If we use twelve TPS23880 devices, could we use only one MCU to control all of it?
  4. Which kind of photocoupler should we use for TPS23880 OSS pin?

Thanks!

  • Hi Chenglin,

    Please see my answers below:

1.Can we use TPS23880 GUI tool without switch device to upgrade TPS23880 and MCU firmware and bypass other IC through the JTAG interface? [Answer]Yes. The TPS23880GUI can talk directly to TPS23880 devices. It is very helpful during the hardware bring up. You can use the GUI to load SRAM code and do basic configurations(such as auto mode) to verify the hardware is good or not.

2.Do you have filed upgrade toolkit for TPS23880 and MCU? Does it support Linux? And how to use it?

[Answer]I am not sure the toolkit you mean. Do you mean the host interface command to MCU?

3.How many TPS23880 devices does MCU support? If we use twelve TPS23880 devices, could we use only one MCU to control all of it?

Which kind of photocoupler should we use for TPS23880 OSS pin?

[Answer]Technically, the max number of PSE device on the bus can be 16 as TPS23880 has 4 address pins. But usually the max PSE device number is 12 to support 48 a-pair ports. One MCU is good enough to control 12 PSE devices. The timing for OSS signal is shown in the datasheet. As long as the isolator is able to transmit the signal, it should be OK.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Penny

    About question 2,
2.Do you have filed upgrade toolkit for TPS23880 and MCU? Does it support Linux? And how to use it?

[Answer]I am not sure the toolkit you mean. Do you mean the host interface command to MCU
[Reply] Yes, like GUI. And we use Linux system to bring up the PSE hardware. So we want to know does it support Linux system or not?
    Thank you!
  • Hi  Chenglin,

The GUI is designed to operate in windows system. We have MSP430 reference code written in C. It has auto mode configurations that you can refer to. We also have a tech doc describing the steps of loading SRAM and parity check code. Thanks.

    Best regards,
