TPS62135: Maximum output current

Part Number: TPS62135

Hi team

My customer did load test to TPS62135 EVM.(5V input  /  0.75V output)

During the load test, the heat generated severely at about 3.2A.

And the switching waveform is generated in the form of dual PWM.

In 4A, heat is generated up to 120℃.

Should this product possible to use 4A?

Thank you

  • Hi Charles,

The operating junction temperature for this device is [-40 ; +125 ℃ ], you can see those value in the recommended operating conditions (Topic 7.3) in the D/S.
If your customer do not actually observe a temperature outside this range at 4A load, then IC's performance should not be altered.

    Thank you very much.

    Regards,

  • Hi Dorian

The datasheet of TPS62135 is shown that the current spec is 4A output.
The customer tested the TPS62135 for a 4A load as described in the datasheet.
They tested it with EVM from TI.
Heat generation occurs severe from 3.2A.
And it does not operate normally due to heat when 4A output.
Is the TPS62135 suitable for 4A output?

    Thank you.
  • Hi Charles,

I let you know as well that 0.75V for an output Voltage is out of specification, we cannot guaranty the TPS62135 performance in this case.

The TPS62135 is suitable for a 4A output with Vout in a range of [0.8; 12V].

Can you explain what do you mean by the "Heat generation occurs severe "or provide numbers?

When you say that the system does not operate normally, do  you mean that the output voltage is not 0.75V ? What are the values of the resistor bridge, R1 and R2?

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Dorian
