LM5176: LM5176

Part Number: LM5176

I am using IC LM5176 for constant current application. Please give your suggestions about my layout consideration. Will there be any effect of bootstrapping capacitance? I have attached the file of my PCB layout.pcb.zip

  • Hi Mayuri,

What is the power level? I am afraid this design would not work well. I only see very tiny traces for the power current to flow. For instance the trace from Q1H_S to Q1L_D and to the IND. It is far from adequate, and you should use polygons other than small traces to conduct the power current. I could not identify where is the current sense resistor.

Please refer to our EVM layout presented at the end of the user guide, and also pay attention to the layout guidelines offered in the LM5176 datasheet.

    Thanks,

  • Can this IC be used for MPPT?
  • I am replying since Youhao is out. There is no MPPT function integrated in this device, need external circuit to realize the MPPT function.

  • I got the solution to control output voltage by providing pwm to the FB pin and I have implemented the logic of MPPT on msp430 microcontroller by sensing output and input voltage. Is this IC suitable? Are there any limitations for MPPT on LM5176?
  • If the MPPT logic works well, then the solar panel voltage range will be limited by Min Vin (2.5V) and Max Vin (55V) , and the maximum current from the solar panel will be limited by the sense resistor selection. (peak current limit)
