UCC21520: Increase in width of the pwm signal causes the driver output to go below reference level

Expert 1140 points
Part Number: UCC21520
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430G2553,

I am driving STW56M60M2-4 using UCC21520 using pwm signals from MSP430G2553.When i vary the width of the pwm signal to the input of the gate driver ,i found the output of the gate driver goes below the reference level why is that so?My mosfets are getting damaged fast, is this the reason behind this?

  • Hi Amal,

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

This blog article talks about causes for negative spikes on the outputs.

If you would like us to review your layout, please friend me, and you can send me your layout privately.

  • Hi Amal,

Im an apps engineer with the gate driver team, let me try to help you as well as find the right apps engineer with this device.
I wasnt able to locate the datasheet for STW56M60M2-4, can you help me find it?
What pulse width is damaging the fets? whats the switching frequency and bus voltage? is the driver damaged?
when you say the gate driver goes below reference, do you mean the VDDA or VDDB is approaching UVLO?
can you show me a scoped waveform of the issue?

    thanks,
