TPS65381A-Q1: CAN WU pin & feature

Part Number: TPS65381A-Q1

Hello,

I'm using tps65381a-q1 on my design.

This design contains a CAN function.

I'd like to enable the system by CAN event, during vehicle ignition.

This is especially necessary for cases where the battery voltage stays on when vehicle is powered off.

For this, I'd like to use CAN WU to drive VVDD3/5 output.

Which system or component can I use for this?

Is there specific CAN transceivers with a dedicated signal ?

Can you advice a reference design to use this input from a CAN transceiver signal (RXD) or the CAN bus signals (CAN_H & CAN_L)?

Best regards!

Martial

  • Hello MDO,

The CANWU input pin on the TPS65381A-Q1 was designed with 14 pin CAN transceivers (or equivalent LIN or FlexRay transceivers) with wake up functionality and an INH output.  One example of such a CAN transceiver is the TCAN1043xx-Q1, .

This type of CAN transceiver is powered from battery during low power modes with very little bias current and will watch for the wake up pattern (WUP) on the CAN bus.  Once the CAN bus WUP is detected it will turn on the INH switch, which will pull the CANWU pin on the TPS65381A-Q1 high and start it's power up sequence.
