BQ76PL455A-Q1: The passive battery cell balance MOSFET driver spec

Part Number: BQ76PL455A-Q1

I am designing a 8 cells Lion-Battery manger using 455A chip.

in this design , the target balancing current is greater than 1.25A @ 3.5V battery voltage by using two of 5.6R resistor in parallel.

To do this current, i need a new and powerful MOSFET to handle the current.

is there any information for me of what's the spec of 455A chip EQ channel drive? like what's the current capability, voltage level when turned on?

Or i have to use recommend MOSFET(2V7002K) with 2k of gate resistor and using other devices like a pnp transistor to amplify the balance current?

thanks and best regards,

  • Hello Bing Xie,

    Thank you for choosing 455.

YOU can check the portion-6.6 VP 5.3-V Supply Regulation Voltage in datasheet.

The internal driving capability is 0.5mA. So you can calculate the gain specs of external FET.

We only qualify 2V7002K and don't have much experience on other FETs.

3.5A balancing is not normal case in the passive balancing in EV application.

In my current understanding, normal case for balancing current in new energy vehicle application is around 100mA.

    Thanks!

    Andy
