TPS23861: Does TPS23861 have 2 mode, manual mode and auto mode for PD switch enable/disable?

Part Number: TPS23861

 Hello guys,

One of my customers is considering using TPS23861 for their new products.

They have the following questions to the device. Could you please give me your answers?

1. Does TPS23861 have 2 mode, manual mode and auto mode for PD switch enable/disable?

2. In the auto mode, does TPS23861 turn PD switch  on/off automatically?

3. If the answer to No.2 is yes, can the host controller force PD switch off after changing to manual mode from auto mode when TPS23861 get a problem in operation with auto mode?

Your reply would be much appreciated.

 Best regards,

 Kazuya Nakai.

  • Hi Kazuya,

    Please see my answers below.
    1. Does TPS23861 have 2 mode, manual mode and auto mode for PD switch enable/disable?
[Penny]Yes. TPS23861 has auto mode, semi auto mode, manual mode and off mode. Please check TPS23861 datasheet section 7.4 for detailed descriptions.

    2. In the auto mode, does TPS23861 turn PD switch on/off automatically?
[Penny]Yes. In auto mode, the device does detection, classification, power on and protection automatically without host control.

    3. If the answer to No.2 is yes, can the host controller force PD switch off after changing to manual mode from auto mode when TPS23861 get a problem in operation with auto mode?
[Penny]Even in auto mode, the host can write to registers to control the device. You can always change operating mode and turn off ports.

    Best regards,
    Penny
