eFuse selection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB321AI, TPS2544

Dear *,

we want to use a eFuse instead of normal Fuse +TVS for over-current and over-voltage protection in our USB3 product.

We have a TUSB321AI CC controller that outputs two signals OUT1 and OUT2, the information from this GPIO is:

Is there a eFuse where i can feed the OUt1 and Ou2 and regulate the current Limit of the eFuse regarding the communicated current between the DFP and UFP ?

Best Regards,

David.

  • Hi David,

We don't have an efuse which can take digital signals as input and change its current limit setting.
Let me see if we can realise this by using logic FET's along with OUT1 and OUT2 to change the current limit setting (resistor values at Ilim pin).
    Is this approach fine ?

  • Dear Praveen,

yes i also tough about this kind of solution, but wanted to ask if there is maybe a integrated solution :)

What eFuse does TI recommends for USB3.1 applications?

Is there a benefit to use eFuse instead of fuse+TVS on the device (UFP) side?

    Best Regards.
  • Hi David,

We don't have an integrated solution to realise 'Changing over current threshold using D+ and D- lines'.

For 5V, 3A applications, TPS259530 or TPS259531  are best suited. Below are its features.

    • Wide Input Voltage Range: 2.7 V to 18 V
    • 20 V Absolute Maximum
    • Low On-Resistance: RON = 34 mΩ (Typical)
    • Fast Overvoltage Protection Clamp 5.7-V with a Response Time of 5 µs (Typical)

  • Hi David,

As mentioned earlier we do not have efuse solutions which can change current limit using D+ and D- lines but looks like we do have similar solutions in 'USB Charging Port Controller and Power Switch' portfolio.
I think devices like TPS2544 are suitable for your application. I will connect you to the right people to suggest suitable part.
    Sorry for the confusion.
