TPS61086EVM-526: Boost Converter ICs with externally controllable duty cycle.

Part Number: TPS61086EVM-526
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5529, , LM5101A, TPS61086

I am a part of undergraduate student satellite building Team, Team Anant. We are working on building an MPPT plus boost configuration for battery charging. We  wanted to use tps61086EVM-526 whose output is connected to batteries and input is connected across solar panels. The MPPT controller changes duty cycle which due to Vout being constant changes Vin across solar panel hence tracking maximum power point, but this IC does not provide external control to change duty cycle(which affects Vin). We wanted to implent all of this with ICs i.e either boost IC with variable duty cycle input or a complete MPPT and boost converter battery charging circuit. We will be using TI's msp430f5529 to implement MPPT code and supply PWM if we only use boost converter IC.

Kindly suggest some appropriate ICs for our usage

1. Boost converter with duty cycle input

2. Complete MPPT+boost battery charging IC.

Our majority work depends on this design, kindly reply as soon as possible.

  • Hello Parth,

Thank you for your interests in the TPS61086. From you description, what you need is actually a half-bridge driver that the mps430 can control to operate in the boost mode. Please consider LM5101A or something similar. Also, the TPS61086 is not certified for aerospace applications. You need rad hard device for the satellite applications.

    Thanks,
