TPS7B63-Q1: Current limit behavior

Part Number: TPS7B63-Q1

Hello all,

I have a question about the current limit functionality of this device. Can you tell me TPS7B6350-Q1 shuts down immediately when the current>300mA, or the device will limit the output current under 1000mA until the thermal shutdown occurs?

Also, can you tell me what happens to the pins below.
- OUT
- WDO
- PG

Thank you,
RYO

  • Hi RYO,

TPS7B63-Q1 has a "brick-wall" current limit. When the current limit circuitry engages, the LDO will limit the output current to the current limit. The output voltage will not be regulated at this point and will be equal to Ilimit x Rload. This will continue until the excessive load is reduced or thermal shutdown is reached. If PG and WDO are pulled up to the output voltage, their logic high value will move with Vout but should otherwise remain functioning as normal.

You can learn more about current limits in our new LDO Basics E-Book:

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
