LM5030: Sync Threshold

Part Number: LM5030

The electrical characteristics page of the datasheet specifies typ. 3.2V, max 3.8V oscillator sync threshold, while chapter 8.2.2.4 states that the sync signal must have an amplitude between 1.5V and 3.0V. Does these two statements mean different things or is one of the statements wrong? I guess I will eventually figure out how this works, but it would be nice to know beforehand.

  • Hello Thomas,
The parameters in the tables are correct and measured at test for the device.
At 25C 3.2V is a typical value and over the full temperature range it can reach 3.8V.
In the application circuit it looks like they measured a minimum of 1.5V and I'm not sure how they measured 3.0V.
For the design of your high reliability products you should plan on expecting a max required peak sync pulse of 3.8V.
Sorry about the confusion and thanks for pointing out this issue with the data sheet.
    Regards
    John
