LM2596: Unable to test line transient in hardware

Part Number: LM2596

Hi,

I am trying to test line transient performance of the chip LM2596-ADJ in hardware & hence trying to give a large input step (from 5 to 15V). I am using basic keysight instruments (waveform generators, power supplies & oscilloscopes). Can you suggest any method to give such a large step? With my current instruments, I am unable to produce such a waveform with the equipment I am using.

Thanks,

Rik

  • Hi,

I think the normal function generator could not supply the current that the LM2596 requires to operate.
If your power supply is programmable then you might be able to do this with your power supply depending on your dv/dt rate.
Or maybe you can have 2 power supply and use diode OR configuration (one supply set at 5V and the other one set at 15V)

    Thanks
