BQ25898: IINLIM setting for SDP

Hello,

Our customer has a question about IINLIM initial condition. when he plugged in VBUS, IINLIM initial setting is 500mA that is probably SDP High power spec. Does it violate USB specification of 100mA initial condition.

if this is true, does the customer resolve by setting a resistor on ILIM (100mA IINLIM) and EN_LIM=1 (default).

    Hey Toshiro-san,

    On the BQ25898, you can utilize the OTG pin instead in order to set a 100mA current limit whenever PSEL is pulled HIGH whenever an input is applied.

    Hi Joel,

    Thank you very much for your suggestion. Let me confirm 100mA IINLIM setting condition again.

    If a customer needs 100mA IINLIM at the initial VBUS connection, he must apply PSEL=High, OTG=High before VBUS plugged in.

    Is my understanding correct ?

    Hey Toshiro-san,

    I apologize, I was mistaken. What I suggested is invalid. I rechecked with our design team. This was a feature on previous generation devices and but is no longer supported on this charger or generations that have been released since.

    Additionally, the ILIM external pin does not support accurate currents below 500mA. So this will also not be an option. What you can do however, is immediately on VBUS plug-in AFTER the input detection, reset the in IINDPM register value to 100mA.

    Thank you very much for your reply. I understand that the customer should access IINLIM sets to 100mA.
    Do the I2C resistors reset to initial condition at the instance of VBUS pluged in with 3.7V battery voltage ?

    Hey Toshiro,

    Only the input current limit registers are reset if the battery is present and above the UVLO threshold and then VBUS is plugged in.

    When VBUS is plugged in, the input current limit detection will override any previously set IINLIM setting.
