BQ24133: BQ24133RGYR,Problem generating output

Part Number: BQ24133

Dear,sir

I am working  on a project in that we have used BQ24133RGYR IC for charging the battery.

The problem with my IC is that its not generating the output,We were Testing the IC when battery was not plugged in.

So,when my battery was not plugged in at that time the BQ24133RGYR IC didn't generated the Output.

Also i want to ask you one more question that is it necessary to connect battery in order to generate the Ouput from the BQ24133RGYR IC.

Our Battery will be based on the 3-Cell configuration.

The BQ24133RGYR IC  Generated 3.3 Vref.

We obtained Voltage on C3(Our input supply voltage are 13.5V.)

Stat pin is Turning ON the LED continuously.

I am attaching you schematic for the same.Please help us regarding the above query.Your help would be really appreciated.

  • Hi Tirthal,

    With no battery connected, the charger should be in battery detect mode, with voltage at VCC_BAT_12V looking similar to datasheet figure 15 on page 21. I have reviewed your schematic and do not see any obvious errors with the exception of a missing 1uF capacitor on VREF. If you are seeing 13.5V on C3, the AC detect circuitry is correctly turning on the input FETs. Is there a squareish waveform at SW? When a discharged battery is connected, does the IC charge the battery?
  • Hello,Sir

    I checked the system again,The things i noticed was that,it requires battery in the battery detect mode.

    Still there was one Problem That ,Charging Current From the IC to Battery Was only 200 mA .I checked all the parameter and The result are mentioned Below :

    Iset = 0.404 v

    Acset = 0.410 v

    TS = 1.641 v

    OPVSET = 1.225 v

    AVCC = 12.86 v

    Volatge On C13 w.r.t Gnd = 6.0 v

    Q1 and Q2 Gate = 19.1 v (Please explain me why this much voltage on the Gate Terminal....?)

    I also pulled the TTC pin to LOW (Disable the charge termination and safety timer).

    The Time battery was connected at that time it had V = 3.8,3.9,3.8 v(Cell 1,2,3).

    Please explain me the reason Why i am not getting the Output Charging Current ....?

    Further adding now my BQ24133 IC is showing wrong STAT Pin status as mentioned below :

    1)Battery not plugged IN       STATUS  LED ON.

    2)Battery Plugged IN.            STATUS- LED Blinking.

    3)Battery fully charged LED ON        STATUS- LED ON.

    We also tested with 1 CELL,2 CELL Configuration but the result were same....!!!

    Please help to solve the problem.

    Waiting for your response....!!

  • Hi Tirthal,

    I just noticed the FB across the BATFET. Is it installed? If so, the bead is shorting the input to the output. If you remove it, does the charger work as expected?
  • Hello sir,

    The FB6 ,FB7and Q11 is not connected in the system because we wanted to see whether the charge functionality is working properly or not.Sometimes multimeter shows 100 to 150mA of the current values and then stat pin starts blinking.Charger is still not generating the output.....!!!
  • Tirthal,

    Current meters in series with the battery cause two problems for the charger.  First, the autoranging feature changes the series impedance and therefore the sensed battery voltage too quickly for the charger to correctly respond.  Second even with autoranging turned off the series resistance is quite high and results in the charger terminating charge too early.    Do you have an oscilloscope with current probe to measure the battery current?  If not, can you remove the current meter and talk a differential measurement of the voltage across the sense resistor to measure the current?
