BQ25601: BQ25601 OTG5V problem

Part Number: BQ25601

Hi TI Sir

I would like to know BQ25601 OTG5V with a Power Source 5.2V/1.5A, is it any problem ?

  • Hi,

Does OTG output and power source turn on simultaneously? it is a problem.

If you only enable one power source? that be ok.

So can you describe more detail about your testing conditions?

    Thanks

  • Hi
Yes, OTG output and power source turn on simultaneously.
I know that BQ25601 will change from OTG mode to charge mode when there is a power supply on the load side.
I'm afraid there are risks when BQ25601 change from OTG mode to charge mode.
Whether BQ25601 permits the simultaneous existence of two power sources for a short period of time
    for example 200mS
  • Hey Terry,

The BQ25601 does not detect the presence of an new input source if it is in OTG mode. You would need to apply an input source that either overloaded the OTG output (due to a much lower voltage) or you would need to hit the input OVP threshold which is programmable.

It can likely sustain two power sources but this is uncharacterized behavior. What we can say is that if OTG is present before the other power supply and the previously mentioned situations have not occured, it will stay in OTG mode even with a different power source applied. If the power source is applied first such that charge mode is enabled first, the charger will still stay in charge mode.

  • Hi,

Yes, This is true that BQ25601 won't exit OTG mode. Only when the adaptor voltage is higher than OTG voltage, OTG can be stopped because of OVP.  As for is there any risk I should check with designer then feedback to you later.

    Thanks
