TPS2492: possible use-case: 2 x TPS2492 as power switch?

Genius 12865 points
Part Number: TPS2492
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25942A

Hello Team,

1)     as shown below is it possible to use TPS2492 as power switches for 12V rails (Pout about 250W)? If input voltage "12V In B" will be switched off then the upper TPS2492 will power the lower TPS2492 backwards via OUT Pin without any Vcc applied. Is this condition allowed or will it damage the part?

2)     To protect against reverse current can 2 FETs be connected back to back. Is it ok to replace FET M1 by 2 FETs as drawn below?

Thanks and Best Regards,

Hans

  • Hi Hans,

I will go through your requirements and reply back soon.

  • Hi Hans,

TPS2492 can drive back-to-back FETs but we need to turn OFF the controller to block the reverse current flow. The ideal device for your application use case is TPS2474x where the controller detects the reverse current and turns OFF the FET automatically.

    What is the end equipment?
For lower currents, up to 5A, you can refer TPS25942A device.

    Best Regards,
    Rakesh
