BQ24250: BQ24250 charging process burns off when the cell shortens

Part Number: BQ24250

I used BQ24250 to design a product. During debugging, I accidentally short-circuited the cell when charging, and then the BQ24250 was burned off.Does BQ24250 have no output short circuit protection?

Can somebody help me for this issue?Thank you very much!

  • HI Skate,

That is unexpected. There is short circuit protection on SYS pin. On BAT, if the voltage drops below VBATSHRT (1.9V-2.1V), the charge current is reduced to 50mA. Is it possible that the accidental short was so fast, the voltage on BAT briefly drooped more than 0.7V below ground (i.e. a hot unplug with ringing)? If so, this could potentially damage the IC.

    Regards,
