LM20136: NC pin

Part Number: LM20136

Hi team,

Regarding LM20136's NC pin (pin 5), the datasheet says to connect this pin to GND for proper operation. I have two questions:

  • Is pin 5 connected to anything internally?
  • What are the consequences of leaving the NC pin as a No-Connect?

Thanks,

Brian Angiel

  • Brian,

    1.  The datasheet , as you noted, says to "Connect this pin to GND to ensure proper operation".

    2.  I checked the EVM and they do in fact connect pin 5 to GND, directly to the exposed thermal pad under the device.

    3.  I checked the wire bond diagram.  It shows nothing bonded out to pin 5, so it is in fact a true NC pin.

All that said, I cannot think that it would make a difference if it was connected or not, but I would be safe, not sorry and go ahead and connect it to GND directly under the device.
