BQ27426: BQ27426:SOC caliculation and Recharge function

Part Number: BQ27426
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25601

Hi TI support members.

Please confirm the following questions.

[Question]
When full charged and continue charging, the battery will not recharge unless it reaches "Recharge Threshold".
Does the SOC of GG fall below 100% during that period?
We worry that SOC value will be changing from 100% to 99% or 98% after full charged and continue charging.
If it is, what is suggeston to avoid it?

  • Hi Chiaki
You host can poll the FC flag, and once set, have the charger stop charging. The gauge does not control the charger.

  • Hi Onyx

    Thank you for your reply.
I would like to keep SOC=100% during charge.
Recahrge voltage of the BQ25601 is 4.1V,therefore I worry about the SOC became under 99% between fullcharge to 4.1V.
How can the SCO to keep 100%?

    Best rergards,
    Chiaki Endo
  • Hi Chiaki

SOC will stay at 100% once it reaches that value while you are still charging. If the voltage drops after it has reached full charge and then a rem cap simulation is run while in relax it will adjust SOC accordingly. I am not sure if this answered your question. Let me know if it didnt. Also, pls see the charge termination section of the TRM.

    thanks

  • Hi Onyx

    Thank you for your reply.

"a rem cap simulation is run while in relax it will adjust SOC"
→Is the SOC adjusted to keep 100% by rem cap simulation until BQ25601 rechargeing?

  • Hi Chiaki
No it will simulate to that new DOD and clear the FC flag if the SOC is lower than the FC clear value
    thanks

  • Hi Onyx
In order to prevent the SOC≦99%(maintaining SOC = 100%) during the full charge voltage ~ 4.1 V (BQ 25601 recharge voltage), Is it the only method to recharge by the host before SOC≦99%?
Is there a method to maintain SOC = 100% with charger IC or Fuel Gage IC?
    Best regards,
    Chiaki Endo
  • Hi Chiaki.
If you indeed fully charge the battery to taper, i do not envisage the cell voltage reducing significantly during relaxation such that the SOC decrements from 100%. If due to self discharge of the battery, the cell voltage reduces by more than 1% SOC , The filtered SOC will stay at 100% but the true (unfiltered SOC ) will decrement to 99%. To keep get the true SOC at 100% you need to plug the charger back in
    thanks
