I want to make a 13s12p (1.5 kWh pack) for Electric vehicle application. The cell chemistry is Li-NMC. So I need a BMS that has all basic OCP,OVP,OTP protections and passive/active cell balancing. I also want to add charge controller and SoC measurement. Kinldy suggest me few automotive grade Ic combinations that I can implement all the above features.

HI Mahesh,

The best option for the monitor/protector portion of the BMS would be the bq76pl455a: www.ti.com/.../BQ76PL455A-Q1. This device allows you to monitor up to 16 cells and stack up to 16 IC's in daisy chain with the option to do passive balancing with external FETs. If you have further questions about this device, just tag it in a new thread and we can focus on that device.

We have a separate chargers team that can support you in choosing a charger and I sent this thread over to them to follow up.

Hi Mahesh,

The TI charger team does not have a charging IC for 13s12p. I recommend searching the reference designs using the link below:

www.ti.com/.../index.html charger&vout=30,100

Even if your exact specifications are not met, you might able to easily modify the design to meet your specifications.

Thanks for the reply. I have gone through the above link bq76pl55a and came to know that it comes with passive balancing by default. But our application needs active balancing and we dont need any daisy chain as we are strictly limiting to 13s pack. Is there any IC that supports active cell balancing without daisy chain for 13s configuration as bq76pl55a is high in price.
