BQ25713: Hot swap function when battery or DC power source is removed

Part Number: BQ25713

Hi forum,

One of the requirement in my design is being able to unplug the power without shutting down the system.

Given the BQ25713 charging system has the DC power input, charged battery and some loading attached.

If the DC input source is removed,  I assume the battery will continue to provide power to the load without shutting down, is it correct?

Will there be a short period of time that the voltage at the loading drop during this power transition? I cant not find any description of this scenario in the data sheet, such as how soon the BATFET will turn on to provide power to the loading.

Is there extra circuit beside the evaluation design we need to put in to ensure a smooth power transition between DC input to battery, like some hot swap circuit?

Thank you in advance for your suggestion.

  • Hi,
you are correct, battery will be in discharge mode if adaptor plug out.
Don't worry, there will be no system power shut down problem because BATEFT internal body diode will always on before BATFET is fully turn on.
You don't need extra circuit for smooth power transition.
    Thanks
