TPS65185: Questions for TPS65185 VDDH and VEE external diodes replacement

Hi Experts,

Our customer is using the TPS65185 to design, and as the PCB space limitation, they want to replace the VDDH and VEE external diodes from BAV99(70V/1A) to other lower VF and current rating diodes, can you help to check what's the minimum diode VF and current rating we needed?

    Hi Jacky,

    I don't think there is a requirement on VF, the main impact of VF should be efficiency. Smaller Vf values have better efficiency than larger ones.

    Current rating is important. All of the diodes used for validation of this part were rated for 1 A. If they want to use a smaller current rating, they would need to validate themselves either on their board or using the TPS65185EVM what the peak current is. They may have to use a current limiting resistor if they really want to reduce the current rating significantly. Figure 5 of this app note www.ti.com/.../slva398a.pdf provides an example.
