BQ24707: Ask for the limit of output current in BQ24707

Part Number: BQ24707
Hello guys,
Could you help me to explain more about the BQ24707 IC?
Now I was successfully configured the IC over SMBus communication and all scenarios happen to seem to be right with the datasheet. However, I was wondering about the max power that the BQ24707 can adapt to charge for the battery.
In my testing, the input power is adapter 20V-3A, the output is two lithium battery which has capacity 5000mAh so I config charge voltage level is 8.4V and set the charge current goes to maximum value.
I expect that BQ24707 can charge the two battery in 5A current level but when I measured the reality result which is less than 4A. According to the document, the BQ24707 can output charge current higher than 8A if we use output capacitor > 30 ( we had already done that).
So anyone can answer to me that what is maximum charge current output of BQ24707 with 2-cell battery?
Thank you.
 Regards

  • Hi Dao,

The max charge current is 8.128 A, but there are several reasons that your measured charge current might be lower. A few questions to help debug this:

    1) What is Iin when you observe that the charge current is <4 A? Is your adapter hitting the 3 A current limit?
    2) Do you have a system load connected, or is it only the adapter, the BQ24707 charger, and the 2-cell battery?
    3) What is the voltage on the ILIM pin? What resistor values are you using for the resistor divider?
    4) Are you using one of our EVMs, or are you using your own circuit?

    Best Regards,
    Angelo
