TPS2492: Short Circuit Behavior

Part Number: TPS2492
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5069

Hi,

In the designed circuit the TPS2492 has a input voltage of 24V. The input current is measuered through a 12mOhm resistor and set at 4.6A . The questions that rises now is how the device is reacting, when the output capacitance of 810uF is discharged directly with a short circuit ?  Is there a relation between the turn-off time of the FETs and the amplitude of the short circuit current ?

The test are done once with a hardwire short circuit and then also with an electrical load. It can be observed that with the electric load the turn-off time is around 300us and with the direct short circuit FET turns immediatly.

We are trying to understand this behavior.

Thanks and best regards

  • Hi Oz Kocoglu,

The response time depends on the amount of overdrive. It looks like the  electric load is not giving perfect short.

Can you provide test waveforms of Vout, GATE, Timer, input current to understand the issue.

Can you share your project details. I suggest to use LM5069 as it offers better performance over TPS249x device in terms of FET protection.

    Best Regards,

    Rakesh

  • Hi Oz Kocoglu,

Thanks for sharing the test waveforms through email.
Please close this thread as we are taking action through email.
