TPS7A16: How to check whether it is a brick wall current limit or foldback current limit LDO

Part Number: TPS7A16
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7B69-Q1

Hi team,

I know TPS7A16 current limit scheme is brick wall current limit. What about TPS7B69-Q1?

Or in another word, if the datasheet don't have curve, how can we know if its current limit scheme? Default is 'brick wall' ?

Thanks

Michael

  • Hi Michael,

TPS7B69-Q1 has a brick wall current limit. You are correct that the majority of devices have a brick wall current limit.

In general if a device has a different current than brick wall, it will be called out in the device datasheet. In addition a device with foldback current limit will have current limit specified under multiple conditions including short circuit and when Vout is forced to another voltage. Many devices with foldback current limit will also have a typical characteristic curve showing current limit.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
  • Hi Ryan,

    Thanks! It helps.
