Battery charger circuit with fuel guage

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25713

I need a battery charger + fuel gauge circuit.   I’d like to use the highest-current possible standard USB as an input.  The battery is a +12V Lithium Ion, 8000 mAh.  Please let me know if you have any part suggestions, circuit ideas, etc.

Thanks,

Carl Olen

  • Hi Carl,

The only charger that TI currently has for boosting from 5V to 12V is the BQ25713 buck boost charge controller (meaning it has 4 external FETs). It requires a host processor with I2C communication. With standard USB maximum output current of 1.5A, your charge current after boosting to 12V will be close to 500mA. This means that your charge time will be 8000mAHr/500mA >> 10 hours.

I will forward to the gauge team for a fuel gauge recommendation.

    Regards,
    Jeff
