BQ27220: BQ27220

Part Number: BQ27220
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Hello TI team,

I am setting up the initial values for the BQ27220 and in the TRM (SLUUBD4) it mentions Taper Voltage (section 4.9.47 page 59) yet I do not see a memory address for it. If I can't change the value and I don't know what the value is then how can I be certain the device will meet one of the three (3) requirements for Primary Charge Termination detection as specified in the TRM?

Requirements for Primary Charge detection:

1. During two consecutive periods of Current Taper Window, the Current() is < Taper Current.
2. During the same periods, the accumulated change in capacity > 0.25 mAh per Current Taper Window.
3. Voltage() >Charging Voltage – Taper Voltage.

Additionally - the TRM keeps referring to the BIEnable (battery Insertion enable) bit is in Operation Config B (see section  but table 4.1.2 Operation Configuration A (Operation Config A) Register indicates the BIEnable is in LOW BYTE bit [7]. Which is correct?

Respectfully,

Keith Haydon

  • hi Keith

    .You do not need to modify taper voltage. ignore. Taper current is more important. Your current has to go lower than the taper current for full charge detection condition to be met

    Bqstudio is a more accurate representation of the registers. Ps use that as a reference.

    thanks
