BQ27542-G1: how to set CC threshold considering the cell aging?

Part Number: BQ27542-G1

Dear TI Experts,

I cannot find CCT bit in BQ27542, does this mean that Cycle Count Threshold only relevent to DesignCapacity()? Then if I set  Cycle Count Threshold  to 90% DesignCapacity, after 1~2 years, battery reduce to <90%.

Will Cycle Count stop to increment? If so, I suppose it should set Cycle Count Threshold to a lower value close to batery EOL reduction percentage to keep Cycle Count going.

Is the Cycle Count crucial to IT algorithm or just a reference to user to count the battery cycle and don't have influence to gauge?

Could you kindly help to give some advice about it?Thanks a lot.

  • Hi Bruce
Cycle count is not pertinent to the algorithm but is rather just used as a notification to the pack maker. Cycle count is just a counter to indicate the number of times the battery has been cycled. It is not related to State of health of the battery. Note that state of charge is different from state of health for a rechargeable battery. So setting the cct too 90% of design capacity simply means that once capacity equivalent to 90% of the design capacity passed charged has been removed or added to the battery, the cycle count would increment by 1. This does not mean when the battery capacity has degraded 90%,

    thanks
