BQ78350-R1: BQ76930 + 78350

Hi,

    10 cells setup with the BQ76930EVM,

    OCC threshold setting -10000mA, delay 6sec.

   ASCDL, ASCD, AOLDL, AOLD, OCDL, AFE_OVRD    -----   all disable

   every time load current over 8A, DCHG FET turn off, all other bit registers remain the same.

   sometime loading spark cause same problem, It seem cause by short circuit protection,  How can I figure it out ?

    Hi Andrew,

    Can you send your data flash settings (click the Export button on the Data Memory screen and save the .gg file)? Also, if you are able to collect a log of this event, it will help to see what is happening. You can do this from the Register screen by clicking the Start Log button.

    Hi Andrew,

    I am a little confused. I loaded the file you sent and it looks like the OCC protection is set to 5200mA (instead of 10000mA). Is this correct?

    Hi Matt,

    Sorry , my typing error, I mean OCD, all the problem now is discharge cut off below OCD setting, register also not show why it cutoff.

    OCC mean Over Current Change, right? I don’t think this setting will cause my discharge cut off problem.

    You can see , during this test, my OCD threshold setting -11000mA.

    Do you think it cause by short circuit protection setting?

    I check your settings and I tested with these settings on an EVM. I am not able to repeat this case. If I go over the OCD threshold, the 'XDSG' and 'OCD' bits go high in the Registers and the DSG FET is disabled. If I take the current back to a lower value, the FET turns back on and the other bits return to their normal state.

    Can you capture a log file of this event? To capture a log file, click on the 'Start Log' button on the top of the Registers page:

     I attached 3 log files already, 2 case cut off by spark, one cut off around 8 A

    Ok, I see the files now. The logs files don't show any reason for the DSG FET to turn off.

    One possibility is that the BQ76930 fault protection is disabling the DSG FET. You disabled ASCDL, ASCD, AOLDL, AOLD, OCDL, AFE_OVRD. but detection of AOLD and ASCD cannot be disabled. The threshold is configured by the BQ78350-R1 (see the AOLD Threshold setting). I am not sure why the FET is not getting enabled again after the fault clears though.

    Your setting for AOLD is 61mV. If there is 61mV detected across the sense resistor, the DSG FET will open.

    But 61mV with current shunt 0.001ohm, 61A limit seem not possible to reach.

    I will try to increase the AOLD limit and its delay.

    Hi Andrew,

    One thing you can try is to enable the AOLD and ASCD bits in the BQ78350. Since this cannot be disabled for the BQ76930 device, I am not sure what the effect of disabling this bit on the BQ78350 will be. I am wondering if it will prevent the BQ78350 from setting the AOLD threshold. The default threshold for the BQ76930 is 8mV - I think this would explain why you see the DSG FET turn off at 8A of discharge current.
