TPS64202EVM-023: EVM Queries

Hi Support,

Please advise below.

1)    Power Supply

  1. C3 and C5 values and type not stated. Can you adv the values? They are also not mounted on EVM. How necessary are these components and when do we mount them?
  2. C4 rating is 10uF, 10VDC. Its placed across VIN and GND (Live/Neutral). Can you confirm this?
  3. R8 and C7 are snubber circuit, also not mounted on EVM. Does the switcher need this snubber circuit to clean up the noise created? R8 value not stated.
  4. Note 2 in schematic – “Short R5 and R3 and Open R6 to Allow Current Sense Using Q1’s Rds On”. This is not implemented on EVM. When is this necessary? R5 value not stated.

Thanks.

  • Ikon,

    1) C3 and C5 are not necessary for the EVM configuration. If you redesign the converter you may need more input or output capacitance to add in those spots.

Equation 6 and 16 in the datasheet determine values necessary for those capacitances.

    2) C4 is a VIN ceramic capacitor yes. The absolute maximum input of this EVM is 7V. Do not exceed 7VIN.

    3) The snubber is usually not necessary unless you have concerns about noise interference or EMI. By itself this EVM should be stable.

    4) Current limiting is achieved by sensing voltage across a resistor. For a simpler design you can use the resistance of the FET instead of the resistor R3. In that case R5 will be shorted, 0Ω.

Please let me know if that helps?
