TPS54302: Reverse Protection

Dear Team,

I m using reverse protection mosfet circuit as described in the image that attached below for TPS54302 and output voltage is set to 5V.

Tested with 0 to 30V 5A adjustable power supply as input and works without a problem. (Also works without a problem with a 12V 7Ah SLA battery.)

But when i connected a 24V 7Ah SLA battery (output voltage was 25V) to the circuit, both mosfet and TPS54302 were burnt out.

Is there something that i miss all along?

Hi,

When you connect the 24V 7Ah SLA battery to the board directly, there would be a large ringing on VIN pin, this spike voltage could damage the IC.
You can test the waveform to check it.

Hi,

What i've missed was spike only occurs while inserting the socket. With your help, a proper TVS Diode solved the problem.
