TPS2H160-Q1: Characteristics of DIAG_EN pin

Part Number: TPS2H160-Q1

Hi,

Could you please give me your advice about below?

1. DIAG_EN:
- Max, Typ and Min time : when will STx pin be active after setting DIAG_EN  to High ?
- Max, Typ and Min time : when will STx pin be inactive after setting DIAG_EN to Low?

2. Inrush - current protection:
Datasheet explains about "fast-trip" in 8.3.3 Adjustable current limit. Is it for Inrush current protection?
If yes,  could you please let me know the current limit value for fast-trip?

Regards,
Nagata.

  • Hello,

    1. DIAG-EN:

     - Same as Tcs(on1) max 20uS

    - Same as Tcs(on1) max 20uS

    2. Inrush - current protection:

By applying fast load step such as short to ground while the device is enabled and FET is ON, during the fast-trip the inrush current is only limited by the FET On-resistance and the wiring.

    Regards

  • Hi, Mahmoud -san,

    Thank you for your supports.
For #2, I believe TPS2H160 should detect inrush current situation. The device has the internal current limit and external current limit. will the device detect the inrush current condition with these limit value? or is there specific detection?

    Regards,
    Nagata.
  • Nagata-san,
You are right. The fast loop should detect the inrush current. The inrush current has no limits is load step situation. It depends on the load step edge. If it is faster the fast-loop, the inrush current is only limited by the On-resistance + wiring resistance. Example hard short to GND in 12V system with less than 1uS, the inrush current can hit 12V/(0.16 + wiring resistance) for around 1uS. I hope that explains the situation.
