There is no difference in the performance of the two orderables. LM1117 is an older device that was originally released when it was common to use lead in the manufacturing process. As the semiconductor industry transitioned to the modern RoHS and Green standards it was important to show customers which parts had been updated to be lead-free. Today there is no material difference between the two orderable devices as can be seen on the Material Content Search:
