TPS40210: External Slop Compensation.

Part Number: TPS40210

Hello Team,

My customer is using TPS40210 as boost converter, due to the max input voltage is coming to 72V, so VDD pin can't be tied to VIN but external 12V supply.

1. For RC pin1, can they tied R between RC pin1 and VIN 72Vmax? (RC pin1 abs max voltage has only 10V). any risk?

2. If item1 answer is no, Can they use external slope compensation circuit as attached schematic? after they added the circuit on it, the PWM pulse looks unstable, can you tell why? how to fix this issue?

Thanks,

Martin

  • Hi Martin,

Thank you for posting your questions here. Answers below:
    (1) Yes they can tie the R between the RC pin and the input line. To be safe, you may consider to add a 9V Zener across the RC and GND pins to protect the pin in case the capacitor fails to open.

    (2) The concept of the ext slope comp circuit seems working. However, they should tune the circuit. Can they measure C160 voltage waveforms? They may not have enough slope injected.

    Thanks,
    Youhao Xi
