BQ27542-G1: BQ27542-G1 Chem ID selection tool

Dear TI Engineer,

We are using BQ27542-G1 chip and BQ studio for  battery Chem ID selection which customized by ATL company. I performed a data collection followed by the GPC instruction and uploaded data to the TI data upload website. I have 2 questions about the GPC report from TI by email.

1. Are these Chem ID listed from all existing fuel gauge chips chemistry, but not only one chip?  Can I just use  one of the IDs directly for my new  battery?

2. Below fuel gauge is just an example to tell me how to choose best chem ID, is that right?  For Example, I see the ID 3640 in the recommend list in the GPC report, so, I can use BQ27542-G1 with the Chem ID 3640 as my new battery ID?

  • Hi Mike,
    You can use any of the chem ids which you circle above. The best match is chem id 1664. You can choose any of These chem ids are from the chem id data base in bqstudio

    Many thanks, How to solve the problem that if we choose the best matching ID but different capacity, I didn't see the change of the capacity displayed on the register of BQstudio after a complete learning cycle. Is that means the parameter should be changed manually in the data memory of the BQstudio, if yes, please let me know when should change the parameter, before or after learning cycle

  • hi Mike,
    That is why after you identify your chem id , you program on the gauge and then run a learning cycle. The learning cycle ensures you learn the total chemical capacity for that cell (qmax). That is what corrects for when you have a chem id that wasn't created originally for your cell.

    Thanks, I have read the TRM appendix C, there's  information for the procedure: 1 determine the chem ID. 2. perform the learning cycle. 3 test the gauge and optimize. 4. Finalize the golden file. 5.Program and test the PCB.

    I don't know that the "program" means setting the parameters of battery or program the flash of Gas Gauge IC as the instruction of step 5, If not, would you clarify and give me the related document to the detailed procedure because it's really confused. 

    Besides, for the Chem ID Selection tool, I uploaded the required data and get the report from IT automatically, however battery manufacturer told me that the recommend IDs existing in the BQ27542-G1 are LiMn2O4(Co,Ni)/carbon, while our battery cell is LiCoO2/Carbon.

    And the other thing is I set the capacity in the data memory in bq-studio, but the display information in the register doesn't show any change such as full available capacity and full charge capacity after learning cycle done, thanks.

  • Hi Mike,
    The chem id that appears as the best match is what you should use irrespective of the chemistry content listed.
