Part Number: LM5023
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28056, UCC28051, UCC28600

Hi,

Kindly suggest can i use LM5023 is used as 100W flyback converter,

Input is 85-265VAC 50HZ 1PH

OUTPUT 24VDC 4.2A

  • Hello Sathishkumar,

Indeed, you can use LM5023 for a 100W converter, with those specifications.
This link http://www.ti.com/tool/PMP4408 takes you to an older reference design for an off-line 120-W dual-output converter.
Obviously, it is not designed for your output specs, however it is useful as a reference to estimate the complexity and system requirements for a single output.

Power levels over 75W generally (although not always) require some sort of power factor correction at the input. If you design is so constrained, please consider the UCC28051 or UCC28056 PFC controllers.
This link http://www.ti.com/tool/pmp6910 shows a reference design using the UCC28051 with a different flyback controller, the UCC28600. Again, it is not your device of interest, but the schematic diagram shows how the PFC interconnects with the AC input and the flyback stage.
Your design can be very similar. Implementing this with the UCC28056 would also be very similar.

Some higher power reference designs using the UCC28056 also use one of the UCC25630x family of LLC controllers instead of a flyback.
For example, this 130-W design www.ti.com/.../PMP21098 at 12V can be used as a reference basis for a 24V design at 100W.
The LLC is more efficient than a flyback converter, but also more complicated.

    Regards,
    Ulrich
