BQ40Z50: Battery fuel gauge with Impedance Track needed for 3S LiPo system

Part Number: BQ40Z50
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24773, MSP430F5529, BQ24773EVM-540, EV2400, , , BQ24770

I have a 19.5V 180W laptop supply feeding the input to my product.  I've decided on a host-controlled NVDC Charge Controller: bq24773 (I am more familiar with I2C than SMBus).  I have a 3S battery stack of LiPo 3.7V batteries, 7300mAh.  I ordered the EV2400 interface board and BQ24773EVM-540 evaluation module.  So, my host controller will be a MSP430F5529.

I want to add an Impedance Track fuel gauge to this system.  I was looking at the bq40z50.  But the datasheet says it's "Not Recommended for New Designs."  What alternatives does TI offer that will work with my system that are recommended for new designs?

What other parts will I need to make this whole system work?  Please let me know.

Thanks,

Carl Olen
