CSD95495QVM: Thermal Information

Hi Team,

Is there any way to check " the temperature of CSD95495QVM use in Ta=45°C with power loss 2W&4W " and the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance of CSD95495QVM?

    The internal junction temperature of CSD95495QVM is finally dictated by the PCB layout and number of copper layers used for cooling.

    To verify CSD95495QVM temperature, please follow this procedure:

    -operate your system with Power Stage CSD95495QVM at full load current

    -measure or estimate the Power Loss dissipated  on the CSD95495QVM

    -set the oven temperature at Ta=45degC

    -measure PCB board temperature next to CSD95495QVM on GND lead-frame point.

    -estimate PowerStage internal junction temperature as Tj=Ppcb+2degC/W*Ploss

    This will give you an estimated CSD95495QVM junction temperature. If your Tj exceeds Tjmax=125degC rating,  you need to improve the layout. Increase the number of copper layers and thermal via used for cooling.

    Since there is no junction-to-ambient resistance in the datasheet of CSD95495QVM

    Could you provide a thermal resistance value that have been tested in specific EVM or the temperature data for CSD95495QVM in Ta=45°C with different power loss for our reference?

    There is no junction-to-ambient thermal resistance in CSD95495QVM data-sheet since this parameter is comprised of two series resistances: Thermal resistance junction-to-case of PowerStage plus pcb thermal resistance case-to-ambient. The first number , junction-to-case of of CSD95495QVM is 1.5degC/W. The latter depends on your pcb design.

    As a reference, for board thermal resistance case-to-ambient.on TI EVM we can measure 10..12degC/W on a 8 layer/ 1oz pcb.Your pcb design might yield slightly different result.
