BQ24250: SYS cutoff using TS pin, to avoid Battery discharge

Part Number: BQ24250
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25896

Hello Team,

BQ24250 has internal VBAT_UVLO of 2.5V, if customer wants to have higher cutoff, can they sense the battery voltage and

pull TS pin above 60% of VLDO or below 30% of VLDO (4.85V) to turnf off the SYS MOSFET inside the device?

Will this solutuin work?

Regards,

Mahendra

  • Hi Mahendra,

Unfortunately, no. When the device is in battery only mode, the VBAT_UVLO cutoff is intended to prevent over-discharge only as a last resort protection in case the pack protector IC over discharge circuit fails. The TS pin HOT and COLD feature only stops charge current going into the battery not discharge current coming out of the battery.

The BQ25896 has integrated ADC to read battery voltage and also ship mode (BATFET turn off) via I2C. The host software could be written to read the battery voltage and then enter ship mode.

    Regards,
