TPS548D22: Date code discrepancies between MFG label and part marking

Part Number: TPS548D22

Hi,

The MFG label showed the reel will have mixed date code with Item showing "8C, 92", full reel with 2500 pcs, but when looking at the actual parts in the reel, all 2500 pcs showed as "91" on the marking. No part with "8C" or "92" marking.

Is that normal? And why label DC marking does not match with part DC marking?

As reference, MFG Label, ITEM showed "8C, 92", 2DC: 1905

The actual part marking showed "91":

Thanks.

  • Miranda,

Typically we can answer technical questions on this forum. These types of logistic questions will be difficult for us to track down. I can offer an opinion though. The date code "91" indicates January 2019. The box marking "8C, 92" most likely means units from December 2018 to February 2019. Labels would be pre-printed to span a period of lot date codes. I will try to verify that, but it may take quite some time.
  • Miranda,

I have confirmed that those date codes on the label are representative date codes of that time frame not necessarily the actual date codes contained within.

  • Hi John,

Thank you for taking the time for confirming this label info.

Below is a file from TI explaining different parameters on the label - How to Identify STC & LTC

    https://e2e.ti.com/cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/196/How-to-identify-STC-_2600_-LTC.PDF

Under the Item section: Usually empty but in some cases may be populated with a Die Name or 2 character Year-Month codes to far right which must match 1st 2 characters of Assy LTC(s).

I understand that the label in general provides a time frame; however this TI document points out that it has to match with the actual part marking.

Here is another example that contains the full lot#, same "8C" and "92" marking on the label, full 2500 pcs, but all parts marked as "91".  LOT# 1180915CL8

Can you help confirm if the LOT# and label also? Let me know your opinion.

    Thanks a lot.

  • Miranda,

It may be possible that the reel in question was assembled from multiple partial reels. My source sated that the label numbers in question were "representative", meaning the date codes within should be near in time, i.e. 8B, 8C, 91, 92, while the document you cite stated they must match. I know this may seem unreasonable, but can you check every part in that reel to see how nay different date codes are included? meanwhile I will present that document to my source, who is the lead project manager for his additional input.
  • Hi John,

For reference,  all 2500 pcs in the reel with LOT# 1180915CL8 showed marking "91". No other DC marking in the reel. Please help consult the lot and label info from your side.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Thanks.

  • Miranda,

Can you tell me where these were purchased (direct from TI, distributor, etc.)? It is possible they may have been re-packaged. Also, does the internal label on the foil packaging match the outer box?
  • Miranda,

I would just ignore these markings as they are not the date code.  The only date code markings that are valid are these:

    • Print the oldest  date code as the primary           date code (D)

    • Print the newest date code as the secondary       date code (2DC)

For your case the earliest date that can be contained is 1850 (week 50 of 2018 which occurs in December 2018 or "8C") and the latest that can be contained is 1905 (week 5 of 2019 which occurs in February 2019 or "92").  So it all matches anyway.  Hope this clears everything up for you.
