BQ40Z50-R2: Using parallel cells in a 3S lineup

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24770

I'm wondering if the following would work.  If I were to take 6 standard Lithium Ion Batteries (NCR18650) and configure two in parallel at each tier of my 3S lineup, could I still use the bq40z50-r2 for balancing, gauging and impedance track?  So, each "cell" of the 3S lineup would actually be two NCR18650s in parallel.  Is this called a 3S2P lineup?

Also, would there be anything in this lineup that would preclude my charge-controller / power path management chip (bq24770) from working?

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Carl Olen
