BQ24610: STAT1, STAT2 question

Part Number: BQ24610

Hello

I am taehwan.

I contacted early because of similar problem.

Let me explain about setting of BQ24610

Vin 15V

Vbat 13.05

Fast charge current: Max 1.5A

Termination current: 0.145A

AC input current: 4A

recently, I checked the blinking STAT1 after finishing charge.

on detailed,  when the charge current reach to termination current first time ,then stat2 is on and stat1 is off.

but after fulled battery insert on PCB again , then I saw  blinking stat1 after a few minute.

this phenomenon is abnormal I think.

Would you let me know why a problem occur?

Thank you

best regards

Taehwan Choi

  • Hi Taehwan,

When battery is near full charge, it is possible STAT1 is blinking as the converter interprets battery cycling between hitting charge termination and recharge threshold. This can happen when there is impedance in the path from battery to where charger measures battery voltage, which tricks charger into thinking charge is done. Can you take a scope capture showing VFB (if battery is near full, offset this signal by 2V on oscilloscope), STAT1, and charge current, when you observe STAT1 blinking?

  • hello Kedar

    I rechecked atat1 become blinking.

    first time, stat2 turn on,

next time( fulled battery insert on PCB again) , stat2 trun on.

next time (fulled battery insert on PCB again) , stat2 trun on.

finally (fulled battery insert on PCB again), Stat1 is blinking and stat 2 off..

as upper photo, please check the  VFB net.

I can't check right now you demand.

next week I will send capture files.

Would you let me know how to make impedance of VFP point more lower?

    thank you so much

    best regards

  • Dear kedar

    i have one more question.

BQ24610RGER has being used for our chager.

I found out BQ24610RGER mark number has difference.

I have three kinds of the IC.

one is TI  7CI AJ70.( first name)

another is  TI  7CI AJ73.(second name)

the other is  TI 83I  C9QK.(third name)

    why mark number is difference?

when i use second name IC, whenever battery insert on pcb again and again , stat2 turn on faster than third name IC .

additionally, about a problem  stat1 is blinking on full battery,  third name IC occur easier than sencond name ic.

    .

dont misunderstand . it may be incorrect my result.

    i just explained tested result.

please check the closely about mark number.

It is important for reliable test our product.

would you let me know what difference about mark number?

    additionally,

what difference  BQ24610RGER and BQ24610RGET are?

    thank you

    have a good day.

    best regards

  • Hi Taehwan,

BQ24610RGER vs BQ24601RGEjust refers to whether the IC is ordered in Tape or Reel, but BQ24610RGE is the actual IC. The other mark numbers refer to the specific lot from which those IC were tested, and characterized. Let me know if you have other questions, and if you have been able to obtain the scope captures mentioned in the post above.

  • Hello Kedar

on upper side, captured photo as you demand.

we don't have current probe on Osciloscope. so, I mesured by DMM(Digital multimeter).

as below,measured 0mA or -7mA repeatly.(probe(+),(-) point is Charge direction, ex) charge current is positive)

Would you let me know about solution?

    thank you

    Have a good day

    best regards

  • Hi Taehwan,
It looks like your charger is cycling between hitting recharge threshold, charging back up, and then hitting termination again. There are a couple of possible reasons: 1) Too much impedance between VFB and actual battery pack. 2) Battery has discharge path, causing voltage to eventually reach Vrechg, and triggering a recharge cycle. The charger operation seems as expected. Can you confirm the time duration that VFB is 2.08V?
