750W AC Chopper design

I am in the process of designing a 750W AC chopper circuit.  The circuit rectifies the 120VAC then chops it using an IGBT or MOSFET.  The design process involves selecting the appropriate IGBT ro MOSFET based on load and efficiency, selecting an isolated gate driver with short circuit protection then designing the isolated bi-polar power supply for the driver.  Due to confidentiality, I will only be able to share more design specs through private messaging or email.  Thanks, Ken

  • Hello Ken,

    Thank you for your post.
Would you please tell me what kind of power topology is in implementation here? is it a single stage design? what is the controller part number, or do you need help identifying the right IC? I am unclear about the question here.

    Regards,
    Sonal
  • Thanks for your reply Sonal. The topology is a power controller similar to the forward or reverse phase control of AC power except that the AC power is chopped via PWM using MOSFETs or IGBTs. Once I have selected the MOSFET or IGBT, I will need help selecting an isolated driver with short circuit protection and designing the appropriate isolated power supplies for the driver.

  • Hello Ken,

Below is the link to the TI power design seminar resources that will help you with your selection.

I can help you to answer any questions on implementation of a TI part but cannot support a complete design process here. Please share the business opportunity for this design, like production start date, volume, application etc.

    Regards,
    Sonal
