TPS659037: Connect SMPS8 on TPS6590379 with VDDSHVs on AM5716

Hi,

my customer would like to connect SMPS8 on TPS590379 with "VDDSHV1~7, 9~11" or "VDDSHV8" on AM5716.

1. Can they connect SMPS8 with "VDDSHV1~7, 9~11"? Especially VDDSHV8?

2. As "5.9 Power Supply Sequences" in AM5716 datasheet(http://www.tij.co.jp/jp/lit/ds/symlink/am5716.pdf), "VDDSHV1~7, 9~11" and "VDDSHV8" must be kept the power supply sequences. We think SMPS8 can be controlled the timing of power up/down sequences to use OTP. Is our understanding correct?

Please check out our user guide fore how to connect the TPS6590379 to the AM57xx devices: www.ti.com/.../sliu011

The OTP is already programmed with the voltage and sequence settings in our TI factory. This user guide describes all the OTP settings and how to connect the PMIC to the processor. SMPS8 should be connected to VDD_CORE.

I would like to confirm it again. My customer will not use IVA in AM5716, so they will not use SMPS8 for it. They would like to use I/O as 1.8V, so VDDSHV1~3, 5~7, 10~11 are connected with SMPS8 as 1.8V. Because the budget of 1.8V is shortage. Can this connection is available from a viewpoint of power up/down sequence?

Ohhashi-san,

You cannot change the power up/down sequence. You also cannot change the startup voltage level. The SMPS8 rail will always start up in the voltage (1.06V) and order shown in the user guide (www.ti.com/.../sliu011f.pdf)

If the customer is okay with keeping these start up settings, and then changing the voltage level after start up, then they could use the SMPS8 rail to supply something else.
