UCD9081EVM: "No EVM found"

I'm trying to use the UCD9081 EVM software, but i get this message: "no evm found. please check for cable continuity, and that the evm is powered"

I used Fusion to change the bus speed to 100kHz and to disable the PEC.

Hello

Is the EVM brand new? Is this the first time that you tried to connect the EVM? If not, did it work before? What has been changes since last working? When power up the EVM, are all red led lit?

I assume that you are using slvc490 GUI to detect UCD9081EVM.

i would suggest:

1. reset the PC

2. make sure the adapter setting is 100KHz with PEC disable.

3. launch the slvc490 UCD9081 GUI

Hi,

Yes the EVM is new. it's the first time i tried to connect the EVM. All red led lit.

I reset the PC, make sure the setting is 100kHz with PEC disable, launch slvc490 and it's still not work.

Could you please probe the i2c signal when GUI talks to the EVM?

Hi,

After power on the voltage on I2C signals is 3.28V

When connecting the USB interface adapter the voltage on I2C signals is around 1.5V-1.7V and it stays in that range if i try to open the GUI and even if i disconnect the USB from the computer.

That explains why EVM is not found. 1.5V is too low.

Do you have another USB-TO-GPIO Dongle?

Hi,

I have USB2ANY adapter. When connecting the adapter to the EVM, the I2C signals are at 1.5V.

What's current consumption from the 5V supply? in my setup, it is about 263mA.
Do you have other TI evm which support either GPIO-TO-USB dongle or USB2ANY to make sure those adapaters are good?

Hi,
1. Current consumption from 5V: 0.26A (I have a 10mA accuracy).
2. USB2ANY is OK - checked with TPS65400 EVM.

I tried a different power supply. Now i do have 3.33V on the I2C signals, but the EVM still not recognized in GUI.

I assume that with new power supply, SCL/SDA are both high even USB-TO-GPIO is connected.
Please collect the waveform when GUI tried to talk with EVM. This will help us debug.

Hi,

The GUI is not sending anything.

I opened the GUI and probe the SCL/SDA on the EVM. I also tried to disconnect the connector and probe it's pins. The SCL/SDA stay high.

From the GUI menu, there is a sub-menu called discover device? do you select this?
If they are high, it means that GUI does not do anything.
Could you try another computer and install the GUI?

Hi,

1. I tried to select discover device. The GUI still not recognize the EVM.

2. I installed the GUI on a different computer but i can still see the GUI is not sending anything.

Please make sure the LED light on the USB-TO-GPIO dongle is lit. otherwise it would not work
you can try to play around with turn on the 5V before or after the USB-to-GPIO adapter is connected to see whether this helps or not.

Hi,

The LED is lit, and i tried to play with the power and the adapter, but the EVM still not recognized by the GUI. I2C signals are high.

Since you do not see any I2c transaction on the bus, it explains why the EVM is not detected. The problem is either on the USB-To-GPIO dongle or EVM. you have to isolate the issue. you can use the low level I2C tool of USB-TO-GPIO dongle to test with other known good I2C device to confirm the functionality . Hi Yihe,

I tried to use the low level I2C tool on the UCD9081EVM. I connected the scope to the I2C test points on the EVM and i see I2C signals!

When using the EVM GUI I'm not seeing signals. Not when trying to open the GUI and not when trying to push "discover devices".

It seems the GUI is not working.

Hello

That's strange.

Based on your previous snapshot of the EVM. the EVM is at the default address 0x6F. you can check the EVM schematics to confirm the address.

could you try below tests:

1. set the address to 0x6F or whatever the correct address is

2. under I2C read. read 1 Byte from 0x1A and 0x1B Cmd respectively.

Thank you for checking. For me, both dongle and EVM are good. Could you redownload the UCD9081 GUI at www.ti.com/.../slvc490 ?
Do you use win 7 or win 10?
