BQ77905: BMS

Part Number: BQ77905
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ4050

By using BQ77905 IC how can i differentiate the design for LI-ION and LIPO batteries .

  • Hi Sandeep,
Basically if the thresholds are appropriate for the LiPO cell, the same device may be suitable as for a Li-ion cell. Do check the terminology since sometimes the LiPO term is used for a non-cylindrical cell while others may be using the term to refer to the iron-phosphate cell LiFePO4. The LiFePO4 cell operates at a lower voltage which would need a different device configuration.
  • Namase,

I am very thankful to your valuable reply , by kindly can you suggest me LIFEPO4 compatible BMS Ic ,

  • Hi Sandeep,
The bq7790508 is the closest protector device to LiFePO4 levels, with the 3.9V OV protection the charger is expected to stop charge at the appropriate voltage (around 3.6) for the cells without the protector tripping.
Rather than a simple protector, many lower count cells will use a gauge device such as bq4050 for more customization of the pack behavior.
